Alaskan Mushrooms Blog, 9-27-05

I've started a blog to identify and categorize all of the mushroom pics I have taken. I do go thru several sources to find out the types and name them, but i would not suggest using my page as any kind of field guide to actually picking and eating shrooms ;)

Ft Rich, 9-26-05

The sun coming up over the mountains this morning, days are getting a lot shorter. I do believe sunrise and sunset are at about the same times, 7:50 in the morning and evening.

Merrill Field, 9-26-05

Merrill Field was established in 1930 one mile east of downtown Anchorage on 436 acres. This was the first real airport in Anchorage. The airport bears the name of Russel Hyde Merrill. Russel Merrill was an early Alaskan aviation pioneer who disappeared in September 1929 on a flight to Bethel. The first aviation beacon in the Territory of Alaska was located at Merrill Field and was dedicated on September 25, 1932 to the honor of Russ Merrill.

Driving away from the inlet, 9-25-05

Quick shot from the rear view mirror(headed out on 9th street) I was pulled over on the side of the road at this point, I know it looks like i was driving ;) The people behind me had stopped in the middle of the road to look at the sunset.

Ducks @ Cook Inlet, 9-25-05

I have been taking pictures in this spot for the last 7 months and these ducks never let me get within 50 feet, but today they pretty much ignored me. At one time i was sitting about a foot and a half away. In the top picture it was raining... think you can tell if you look close.

Serenity, 9-23-05

Normally, I put only pictures that I have taken myself... but this is to good of a thing to not post. This movie is a spin off of a short lived tv series called Firefly (best show on tv, ever). I have not been this excited about a movie coming out since episode1 which ended up being bit of a disappointment.

Anyways, 7 days and counting :)

Mushrooms on Ft. Richardson, 9-21-05

Very unusual amount of mushrooms this year. Lot's of rain and sun made for a very large variety.

Value Village, 9-21-05

We hit up the cheapy store's halloween section today and played dress up for a bit. The Boy had some leftover birthday money from his grand parents and decided to get this Rolie Polie Olie head piece and spongebob costume. Not that he'll wear it for halloween, they're just fun :). We'll most likely go back tomorrow and get Rowan a costume.

Artic Valley Road, 9-20-05

Where Harv and I took a quick hike in the woods to scout out mushrooms, right outside of Ft Rich, it's actually considered part of the base.

Just messing around with different shots, the feathers were what was left of a duck i scared away from the shore... those were about 4 ft out. I had to stretch out with one hand and snap the pic without looking, almost dropped the camera in the water.
